Meeting Stanley

In my last post I mentioned that there was more to tell from the day the Olympic Torch came through Monk Fryston village, well this is what happened after the Olympic peeps had all gone.

Outside one of the cottages we saw a pink doggy bed on a bench so we went over to say hello to the little dog. His owner came to talk to my peeps and she told them that his name was Stanley and sad to say  he had suffered a stroke and the day of the torch was his last day before he went over the Rainbow Bridge. He was able to sit and watch the festivities and the torch going by from his roadside bench outside their cottage - he had always loved to meet peeps and Leigh gave him a cuddle for a while and then put him back in his little bed.

He was enjoying the sunshine and the breeze blowing in his crest. Stanley is a Chinese Crested dog which can be hairless like him or hairy like this one:

Anyway the lady who owned Stanley had 6 rescue dogs - mostly Chinese Crested and she invited us all behind the gate to her backyard to see them ...and meet her hens. She has so many hens of rare breeds she said she had lost count of them!

Well as you can see her dogs were quite excited to meet me - I don't know if they thought I was a torch bearer. Judith had to put me on the ground for proper greetings:

and then we were introduced to the hens:

As you can see there were lots of different kinds there and some fine cockerels too.

We enjoyed our visit behind the big gate and on our way back home we said goodbye to Stanley.
It was such a beautiful day that day and the roses were flowering in the hedgerows. They call these  'dog roses'

So here is a dog rose for Stanley - run free across the Rainbow Bridge, Stanley.

  2. I'm sorry about Stanley. That's just awful. One day he was there and the next he wasn't? Well, I'm sure he's just happy to be over at the rainbow bridge. There, he wouldn't need sun screen to protect his skin.

Anyway, I bet Leigh had a field day with those hens. There are so many of them! I'm overwhelmed.

Ummm, I don't know if it were appropriate of me to tell you but did you know my dogs love to eat chicken poop? It's downright annoying but that's the truth :(

  10. Oh what a sad little story, I hope Stanley is remembering the excitement of his last day now over the bridge. And all those hens, little Susie-Belle would have been pinching one for her dinner if she'd been there with you Magic xx
